Prof. Osodeke, a soil science professor at the Federal University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, was elected early Sunday morning during the union’s three-day conference at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.
Emmanuel Osodeke, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) immediate past vice-president, has been elected as the union’s new president.

Prof. Osodeke, a soil science professor at the Federal University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, was elected early Sunday morning during the union’s three-day conference at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.
He succeeded Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, an education professor at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Other union members elected alongside Mr Osodeke include Chris Piwuna of the University of Jos as vice president, Olusiji Sowande of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, as treasurer, and Ade Adejumo of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, as financial secretary.

Austen Sado, a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, was also elected as the union’s investment secretary; Adamu Babayo of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, was elected as the union’s internal auditor; and Stella-Maris Oke of Cross Rivers State University of Science and Technology, was elected as the union’s welfare secretary.
Prof. Ogunyemi will continue to serve as an ex-officio member of the new executive committee, presumably to guide the new leadership.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ogunyemi, Prof. Osodeke’s predecessor, described his two-term tenure as a period of service to the nation.
Prof. Ogunyemi expressed gratitude to the union and his colleagues for their encouragement and support.
He emphasized that whatever was accomplished during his tenure was the result of teamwork and urged his successors to continue the tradition.
